Welcome to our website!

We just updated the website and loaded all spring photos for 2008! Check out our does, herdsires, and kidding pages to see our goats clipped and standing for show and don't miss our other updates throughout the site!

Fair Skies is located at All I Saw Farm, our home and our fledgling farm.  Located on 20 gorgeous pastoral acres in southwest Wasilla, Alaska, we are near the community of Big Lake.  We were born and raised in Alaska and we are folks with a pioneer spirit and a can-do attitude.  We live "off-the-grid" on a solar power system and our unlimited operations defy all related stereotypes.  In fact, our visitors often remark on how they never expected one could live so well and be independent from the local utilities, on a solar system in Alaska no less!  We do welcome visitors but due to our schedule and our commitment to a bio-secure farm, we must insist upon appointments made in advance.  In case you are unable to visit us in person, we built this website to allow you a peek from the comfort of your own home.

Although we're still small enough to be considered in the hobby stage at this point, we have many hopeful ideas that we believe will contribute to building our community by feeding the resurgence of self-sufficiency and improving the availability of healthy whole foods.  We will also be trying some innovative approaches to bringing farm to family and we can't wait to share them with you!  In addition to chickens, ducks, turkeys, horses, and pets, part of our operations at All I Saw include our new dairy goat herd, Fair Skies.  After many months of research and careful consideration, we opted to begin our foray into the vast goat world with Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats.  When we first laid eyes upon them, we were fascinated with the production capacity, economical feed requirements, and outgoing personalities of these small creatures.  Once we opened our eyes, they seemed to instantly transform from barnyard ornaments to working partners and devoted companions.

We began building our herd based upon the genetics of the highly respected SilverAurora farm in Wasilla, Alaska.  As is evident from the quality, health, and productivity of their animals, SilverAurora has invested considerable energy into their herd and their farm over the years.  With regard to goats, they are known for importing to Alaska excellent stock of diverse foundation genetics.  We were lucky to find such wonderful animals so close to home, especially in a herd of such high quality with keepers so dedicated to health, well-being, and the betterment of this special breed.  Suzanne Nevada and Rick Williams of SilverAurora are also known for willingly sparking new passions in anyone willing to listen, and mentoring those protégés through their dreams to fruition.  We are very thankful to SilverAurora for making such awesome goats available to us!

We hold beliefs similar to SilverAurora with regard to our responsibility to our animals, the soundness of their breed, and the future of our related activities.   When we decided to purchase our first Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats, we chose to continue the goals of our mentors and help preserve and hopefully improve our chosen breed.  Such plans come with big responsibilities and everyday we strive to uphold the foundations of responsible breeding.  We were thrilled at the opportunity to purchase our starter herd at SilverAurora and we look forward to many more additions from their stock and from other outstanding Nigerian Dwarf breeders around the world.  In fact, we expect at least two new additions in the next couple of months!

We do have plans to expand into other breeds in the future, including Nubians, Oberhaslis, Kinders, Alpines, and possibly Boers.  For now though, we are concentrating on these very special Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats.  For more information about our herd, please visit About Fair Skies.  Be sure to ask about our Dairy Herd Improvement (DHI) incentive program!

This site is still under construction and we hope you'll return often to watch us grow.  We will be adding several more tidbits of information about our goats, the development of our herd, and our plans for the coming years.  Welcome to our website.
